One Month Countdown to Seoul; 1000 visitors
Today was notable for 2 reasons: number 1, I am exactly one month away from boarding my flight in Toronto to leave for Seoul, and number 2, this blog reached 1000 hits. Not too bad for just around 3 months time live on the interweb, and many more than this year’s edition of the Toronto Blue Jays.
As for Korea, last Tuesday I sent away all my documents to my recruiter (Korea Connections), and now I am waiting for them to send me a package that I can use to apply for my visa in Toronto. It cost around 95$ to Fed-ex the package to Seoul, not too cheap. I have yet to receive my plane ticket either. If you are going to Korea in the fall, and working with SMOE or any other company or school, a few people have been posting here to try and make some connections before they leave. Also, feel free to email me at strayblog@yahoo.com.
On an unrelated note, I really felt some closure yesterday after I mailed my American cell phone to New York. I had been in a friend’s family plan, with 2 Japanese people and a Key West area code. But now that my 2 year trip is over there I had to return the phone and delete all of my contacts and messages. I don’t care who you are, people feel a little connection to their cell phone and their phone number, and deleting my friends kind of felt like I was totally removing the last direct connection I had with them before I leave the continent. Probably a bit melodramatic.
But anyways, here is a list of what I will miss from my time at Florida State University and living in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as well as the things I will not miss.
WILL MISS:
All my Yank friends
The dirt cheap price of alcohol and “All You Can Drink” nights
FSU football Saturdays
FSU girls’ sundresses
Barbeque
Southern Accents
Yianni’s Bar 80’s nights
The glorious winter weather
The tennis classes I taught at FSU
Road trips to Georgia, South Florida, Texas, etc.
Hanging out on campus at FSU and WFU
WILL NOT MISS:
Natty Light
Enormous Car rims
Whining about gas prices that are relatively cheap
Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and the like
The summer heat that smacks you in the face
Camo
Rogers Hall Graduate Dormitory
ESPN ignoring hockey but hyping stupid competitions like “Who’s Now” and “Titletown USA”
Indifference about the environment
All in all, regardless of this list, there a lot more things that I will miss about my time in the South.
