I’ve been looking for jobs near my hometown in Ontario. The one below caught my eye. I wonder whether an online job bank is an appropriate venue to advertise such an occupation. I’ve added my own comments in italics.

I, for one, was unaware that “Monk” was a salaried position… How desperate for monks do you have to be to advertise monk openings to shmucks like me that peruse these boards? Would you convert to Buddhism for $15,327 a year? Maybe…what with this economy and all…

Hey! Hello from London Ont. They had a fire recently – last year. Pretty strong community because they rebuilt.

I mean, it’s not really so different from having sold your soul to culturally closed, xenophobic, procrastinating, moody Korean’s for a year. It would be a lot more peaceful and at least you could eat cheese. Something to consider.

I understand your position.
but the Cambodian Buddhist community is vegetarian, so, no cheese!

You aren’t getting into Buddhism for the money alone. There’s also the chance at infinite spiritual enlightenment, which I guess is like a nice tip.

Where is the mention of the free gear??
Those black hoods have to be a major selling point. They need a marketing guy to revamp this job posting!

No hoods. No black. Just orange robes, one shoulder bare. In Canada though, winter coats and gear is allowed.
